That’s the place where we study, live and play
A Special School and Care Center in Lubliniec is an institution which educates deaf children and the youth as well mentally disabled children with other linked problems aged from 7 to 23. It’s one of the oldest Centers for Hearing Impaired in Poland. Because we are the boarding school so we can provide the students coming to our Centre from many distant towns with proper accommodation. In our Centre students can continue their education from a Primary School to Secondary Schools . In our schools we have 247 pupils and 128 teachers. The specialized teaching staff: educators, a psychologist and speech therapists provide our pupils with modern methods of education and revalidation. They help students in coping with daily problems, understanding of the present and preparing them for life on their own. The extensive area of our center and its location create very good conditions for studying, work and rest.

Sport
What about sport in the Centre in Lubliniec?
-Is there in the Centre or out of school the institution gathering students on the sports activities?
Yes, of course. It’s a club “ Hercules” which has been active from many years and it’s really popular.
-What the most important successes have the students achieved so far?
We can boast many titles of the champions of Poland in LA as well in volleyball, competing also with mainstream schools. Every year we organize the Championship of the Table Tennis for schools and Centres  from Lubliniec district. Usually in the competition about 11 institutions take part

Professional education in our Centre
-What fields of professional education are there in the Centre?
The most popular job for hearing impaired students are a cook and next a tailor. For hearing student with mild mentally disabilities we have the multi- trade classes, educate in many jobs: a bakery, mechanic, a hairdresser...
-How do the employers assess preparing of our students for doing the chosen job?
The employers assess our students very well. Many of them find employment in their job after leaving school
-Are you thinking about opening the new fields of professional education at school?
Yes, we consider the possibilities of opening such new subjects as a florist, a photographer, a gardener. But it’s connected with preparing proper documentation, getting the acceptation local school authorities and the positive opinion of the Job Centre.

Dormitory
-How many tutors and foster children are there in the dormitory?
Currently there are 37 tutors and 93 foster children
-What are the advantages of living in the dormitory? – we asked students?
We can sleep longer in the morning, because the school is really close!
In the dormitory we can make many friends, and tutors always willingly help us with doing homework. Meals in the canteen are great, and tutors organize many activities, contests and trips.

Theatre group
-Do you have any theatre group in the Centre? Yes, of course. The theatre group “ Be quiet- hash” came to being in March 2006. The managers and directors are tutors: B.Zielińska - Lisakowska i B. Jaskulska. The group consists of students who live in the dormitory. The rehearsals  take place once a week, sometimes more often. Together with the group the choir exists, which translate songs in the sign language.
-Could you tell us about any achievements of the theatre group?
Well, we took part in 2012 Polish Review of Hearing Impaired Children and the Youth’s Theatres in Szczecin. We presented “The fairy tale about a fisherman and a gold fish” and we rewarded the Audience Prize. In 2010 in the category without the text on the Review our group took the first place, and our student Ł. Mazurek rewarded the title of the best mime. We performed also in
Denmark and Czech Republik.

Room of the World Experience
-What  can we tell more about the Centre yet?- we asked our educator- Mrs E.Kucharska
The special place in our Centre is our Room of the World Experience. This room was built in 2006. We (me and the psychologist J. Bogus) made the place. We found rooms in the Centre, we thought out the colours and we contacted with the firm AURA, which set the equipment. There are here modern devices, using water like a water bed, water columns as well projectors and mirrors.
-How do you think, the children like staying in the place?
Children like it very much they feel well here, make a use of a water bed, the pool with balls, they watch projected pictures, listen sounds, look on the reflections in the mirrors.
